Empowered Care started with Kristen — Sue’s daughter and Nathan’s sister, and the heart behind everything we do. When we discovered in-home supports, it didn’t just help Kristen… it changed our entire family’s life.
These services allowed us to become paid caregivers, which made it possible to provide consistent support while keeping our household stable. For most of Kristen’s life, Sue — her rock and primary caregiver — couldn’t work, because Kristen’s support needs are more than a full-time job. And when we needed additional help, we were also able to hire trusted caregivers to support our family.
That combination — family care plus reliable support — created a level of stability and quality of life we didn’t know was possible.
That’s why we started Empowered Care: because we’ve lived it. We understand the stress, the questions, and how much it matters to have the right people around your loved one. Our mission is to make support easier to access, and to build a team that helps your loved one thrive.
Who we are as an agency
Empowered Care is a family-owned, Oregon Medicaid agency supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). We’re here to be a trusted part of your loved one’s support team. We can help you become a paid caregiver (DSP) for your loved one, hire a DSP of your choosing, or match you with a compassionate DSP from our team.
Three ways we can create your support team
1. Get Paid to Care for Your Loved One
If you’re already providing care for a loved one, we can help you become their paid caregiver through Oregon Medicaid—step-by-step. We make it easy.
Clients must be approved for ODDS Attendant Care (CLS - OR526) or Children of Extraordinary Needs (CEN - OR525) through Oregon Medicaid.
2. Bring Your Own Caregiver
Have someone you trust—like a friend, neighbor, or family member—or already found someone who wants to support your loved one? We can help you onboard them and get everything set up correctly, quickly, and smoothly.
3. Let Us Match You With a DSP
Need help staffing support hours? We’ll work with you to understand the schedule and care needs, then match you with a reliable Direct Support Professional. We take pride in finding the best match possible.
